They combine the ease of adjustment of metal planes with the lightweight and tactile feel of wooden planes. And they solve the problem that both wood and metal planes share–the need to grind an often thick iron and grind it straight (or slightly cambered ), square, at the proper angle, and all the while making sure not to burn the blade. Go from straight to slightly cambered to fully cambered by simply turning 2 screws from the bottom of the plane! The frog has been re-configured to accomplish this, while also making it now even easier to adjust the chipbreak gap. Do your final smoothing by adjusting the blade to a perfect camber to not leave any plane tracks and adjust your chipbreak gap to eliminate any tearout! - [Infill Planes](https://blumtool.com/tools/infill-planes/) - When I first started making my wooden planes, I remember saying to myself that this design would make a good infill-style plane. Now I know I was right! I am offering the planes with 2 different side materials: stainless steel and brass. All the soles are 1/4" steel. These are all precision surface ground precisely flat. The infill wood is your choice of mesquite or black walnut. The Blum infill planes are unique in that the infill does not fit tight to to sides. They are about 1/64" shy on each side, so the wood is free to expand and contract without constantly putting pressure on the sides.There are steel pins going through the infill which do fit tightly and these are joined to the sides like the bottom is. The infill is pinned to these cross pins in the middle, so the expansion and contraction happens equally on each side. The working parts of the planes are identical to the wooden Blum planes, so all the accessories and options interchange. You will need to choose from a couple of options when ordering or as always, feel free to give me a call to discuss them. - [Block Plane](https://blumtool.com/tools/block-plane/) - Our block plane features a body made from Jatoba (Brazilian Cherry) and American Black Walnut. Jatoba is an extremely hard-wearing wood. It differs from standard metal body low-angle block planes in several important ways. First, it is a bevel-down plane vs bevel-up for most others. This eliminates the wear bevel which occurs on the flat side of bevel-up planes. This must be removed at sharpening by removing enough metal to get back to a truly flat back. Ours is the only double iron block plane. All others are single iron. This block plane is great for planing end grain and, because it is the only block plane available with a chipbreaker, it also will plane long grain very well without tearing the grain. Many times, planing end grain also involves planing long grain in the same stroke, such as trimming an end grain plug, through tenons, dovetails, butt joints, etc., etc. No need to worry about ruining a piece because of nasty tearout from your low-angle, bevel-up block plane. Comes with our new Adjustable Camber Frog!

The hard maple head is one solid piece and mortised through to receive the handle. The handles are offered in cherry and hickory. - [Adjustable Bench Hold-Down](https://blumtool.com/tools/adjustable-bench-hold-down/) - Our new adjustable bench hold-down works on practically any bench over 1 1/2″ thick and only requires a 3/4″ hole to engage the shank. The unique feature of this hold-down is the adjustable arm. By sliding this in and out, up to 6″ of adjustability can be had. From the shaft, you can clamp from 9″ to 15″ away. This gives you great clamping range and means you don’t always have to line up your work underneath the end of the holdfast, which is a constant effort. Based on a turn of the 19th-century design, this one is very solidly made and features a hard maple pad on the end, so you don’t need to always have an extra pad to keep from marring your work. The hold-down will work in bench tops from 1 1/2″ up to 6″ or more. Capacity is 9″ under the pad when engaged in a 4″ bench top. Reach is from 9″ to 15″.

It has a rear adjustable shoe made of UHMW, which has etched lines representing 1° increments in the sharpening angle. It has a slot for the blade which is held by 2 rare-earth magnets and its' projection is controlled by 2 screws behind the rare-earth magnets.

The torsion box is the same size, only the outer apron is not as deep. All the accessories except the toolbox work on the ‘pony’. This is a very sturdy little bench. The legs are heavy, square steel. They are held in a welded receiver socket that is integrated into each corner of the bench. They are held in place by clamping them in this socket with a three-cornered knob. The legs are milled where the knob bolt contacts them, so as to give some vertical adjustability to each leg to steady it on uneven ground. The legs are stored underneath for transport or storage. Set-up can be done in about 20 seconds. A great bench for carvers to sit at.
