Description
I patterned this mallet after an antique one I have used my whole career. The handle has flats so you can always tell the head position, and is very comfortable to hold when ‘choking up’ for delicate striking.
The handle and head are a wedge fit, so don’t worry about it flying off or coming loose from long-grain to cross-grain gluing and wedging.
The hard maple head is one solid piece and mortised through to receive the handle.
The handles are offered in cherry and hickory. While I have never yet heard of a cherry handle breaking, if you plan to really pound hard with it, get the hickory for peace of mind.
