Wood choices for 'Blum' Planes

Choose from a variety of woods to customize your 'Blum' Plane

Mesquite: This is our featured wood for planes. Mesquite is heavy, hard, beautiful, and very stable. It is one of the only woods where the ratio of tangential to radial shrinkage approaches 1:1.

Quartersawn Hard Maple: This is used for the sole and body. It is a very dense and hardwearing wood. We pair this with either Cherry or Black Walnut for the sides and handles.

Jatoba: The hardest and heaviest wood we offer. Used for the body of the block planes, this wood wears like steel and is very stable.

Black Walnut: Used for the infill planes and also the block plane sides. A beautiful American hardwood.

Custom Woods: Since our planes are all handmade, we have the ability to use a wood of your choice or even make a plane out of wood that you supply. Just call for details.
